It appears that Microsoft has removed the ability to select multiple contacts in WM5 and beyond. An unintended consequence of this is that there is no easy way to delete all contacts on the phone – you have to do it in Outlook on the PC. Here is an app that lets you delete everything on the phone.

Microsoft Office 6.1 Mobile Update (FREE) – PDAPhoneHome.com
Posted by onlydarksets on November 29, 2007
This was just released yesterday:
Microsoft Office 6.1 Mobile Update (FREE) – PDAPhoneHome.com
Microsoft Office 2007 introduced new Open XML-based file formats for Office applications. These new file formats reduce file size, improve security and reliability, and enhance integration with external sources.
To allow Windows Mobile users to work with Office documents created in the Open XML formats, Microsoft has developed an upgrade for Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile applications. This upgrade to the Office Mobile applications allows viewing and editing of Word documents and Excel workbooks and viewing of PowerPoint slideshows created by using Microsoft Office 2007.
Other improvements include:
• Enhanced viewing experience for charts in Excel Mobile.
• Ability to view SmartArt in PowerPoint Mobile.
• Ability to view and extract files from compressed (.zip) folders.

Screen protectors (personal experience)
Posted by onlydarksets on November 28, 2007
Following up on this post, I purchased the Pocket Solutions HD Screen Protectors. They are not the crystal clear kind, but, rather the anti-glare kind.
The first set I received was not cut properly. After my second support request (the first received no response), Pocket Solutions sent me a replacement set at no cost. These fit better, but there is about a 1/32″ gap on one side. I’m not sure anything can be done about that, though, since the screen on the i760 is recessed.
It has worked well so far – no smudges, fairly readable outdoors, and no scratches.

Installing car seats – LATCH and seatbelts
Posted by onlydarksets on November 28, 2007
I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s OK to use both LATCH restraints and seat belts to secure a child’s car seat. The short answer is no, but I can’t find a satisfying reason, other than, “Car seats aren’t tested that way”.

5-point Harness Car seats for over 40lbs
Posted by onlydarksets on November 28, 2007
I have to upgrade my son’s car seats because he is too tall for the Britax Roundabout he is in now. However, finding a 5-point harness seat rated to more than 40lbs/40″ is no small feat. I found a few though:
- Safeguard Child Seat (65lbs/57”):
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/SeatDetail.cfm?CSSID=539
- Britax Regent (80lbs/53”):
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/SeatDetail.cfm?CSSID=536
- Safeguard Go (60lbs/52”):
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/SeatDetail.cfm?CSSID=593
- Safety 1st Apex 65 (65lbs/52”):
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/SeatDetail.cfm?CSSID=601
Beware the other seats listed in the “Combination” section of NHTSA’s website. The forward/rear combo seats only allow the 5-point harness up to 40lbs. Above that you just use the seat belt, which is less than a perfect solution.

Windows Live Writer supports WordPress!
Posted by onlydarksets on November 14, 2007
This was hardly a secret or anything, given WordPress’s immense popularity, but I just found out that WLW supports it, as proved by this post!
Of course, a link is always helpful!

Finger-scrolling contact applications
Posted by onlydarksets on November 7, 2007
There are a number of applications that allow finger-scrolling like the iPhone.
- PocketCM – the most slick of the free options
- FunContact – slick scrolling, but very difficult to actually select a contact
There are also a few that don’t appear to be developed any longer
- iContact – the original
- iMedia – haven’t tried it yet
- ContactManager – no longer developed, replaced by PocketCM
- SSContact – no longer developed, replaced by iMedia
